Dodge Charger Mopar SRT8

Drift

America

The competitive sport of drifting originated in Japan and had traditionally been associated with Japanese cars, but as the sport’s gained in popularity in the US, American cars have appeared on the scene – after all, American car culture isn’t short of the raw ingredients required for drifting: big horsepower and rear-wheel-drive.

The Charger was reborn in 2005, reviving the name made famous by the iconic late’60s muscle car for a four-door sedan with some styling nods to the classic car’s shape. With the option of Chrysler’s Hemi V8 engine, the Charger can be specified as a very quick car indeed, in fact the most powerful models available outstrip the most powerful classic Chargers in stock trim.

The drift car has had its hemi tuned to put out 650bhp, all the better to light up the fat rear tyres and get some serious sideways action going on. The whole car has been modified with the intention of getting those long, sustained slides at high speeds and slip angles that get big scores from drift judges.
