Happy drivers powered by cheap gas from the occupied territories in the Middle East
Full throttle, no regrets for citizens on German autobahns: Axis control of Middle Eastern oil fields guarantees that tanks and private vehicles will always have low cost fuel on German roads.
Conquests in the Balkans and on the African continent (cp. back issues) have placed the German forces in a secure enough position from which to take Middle Eastern oil fields by force.. Special Wehrmacht units like “Mineralölkommando Süd” were especially trained to seize the oil as soon as control was established. Since then, Ostöl-IG has been flooding the occupied regions with dirt-cheap petroleum products. This has also benefited allied axis powers: in spite of the US oil embargo, Japan has been able to strengthen its position in the Far East.

With all of Europe under its control, the German Reich has now begun to rebuild the destroyed continent. Most of the destruction was wreaked by the Germans themselves during the course of their violent conquests. Now the focus is on the expansion of the autobahns. The Reichsautobahn’s executive board recently announced the extension of the roadway system to a total length of 5,000 kilometers. The Fuehrer’s intention is to have all roads lead to future Germania (today’s Berlin). Following the Greater German example, multi-lane autobahns are to be built from Paris to Baghdad. Although the measure has been officially declared a ‘work creation’ scheme, the international League of Nations doubt that only free citizens will take part in road construction works. However since no filming is permitted in the Axis occupied territories, a unanimous resolution could not be reached for lack of tangible evidence.

German roads are meanwhile dominated primarily by the ‘Strength through Joy’ vehicle popularly known as the “Beetle”, constructed in 1937. Thousands of these affordable little runabouts race the new German autobahns from Bückeburg to Oberammergau: fuel is only three Pfennigs per liter – prices free Americans can only dream about. For them, a litre of fuel meanwhile costs the equivalent of almost four Reichsmarks.

Military Parade to Celebrate the End of the War
The German Wehrmacht held a large parade in Berlin to mark the occasion of the war’s end. As a highlight of the army spectacle, Heidelinde Schtonk gave a singing performance of the national anthem at the Brandenburg Gate. In what appeared to be a spontaneous gesture, the Reich Chancellor honored her outstanding performance by awarding her the Reich’s Cross of Merit. At the end of the show, the new armored vehicle Panzerkampfwagen VIII E50 Maus was paraded before the Reich Chancellor. The 188-ton vehicle is armed with a 128 mm tank cannon 44 L/55, another tank cannon firing 75 mm 44 L/36.5 rounds, and a 7.92 mm MG34. A prototype of the Maus was first used in June, 1942. It was allegedly developed to counter “Soviet super tanks” – however, independent observers agree that such vehicles never existed. The key question still persists: why should the German Reich put new, heavy war machinery into service when the war is ostensibly over?
