In 2002, V8 Supercars continue to reign as the premier motorsport category in Australia. This season promises to be a year of reward and triumph as the sport moves forward and we embark on our second year as a truly 'international' series.

It is also a year that promises to deliver some of the most exciting and competitive motor racing Australia has to offer. The increased variety of race formats and locations this year will offer our loyal fans even more excitement and stretch the limitations of our drivers as they strive towards winning the coveted Series crown.

It is a combination of the adrenalin packed action, along with the Ford versus Holden championship battle that has become a valued part of our heritage and a way of life for many Australians and our New Zealand neighbours.

The growth in popularity and fan support confirms what AVESCO has always known - that V8 Supercars is Australia's greatest Touring Car Championship.

While V8 Supercar fans have had great cause to celebrate the on-track success of their drivers, more and more motor sport fans across the world have been introduced to this uniquely Australian category.

Over the past five years, AVESCO have had the opportunity to expose hundreds of millions of people to V8 Supercars. AVESCO will continue to focus its efforts on expanding its fan base and provide the exceptional level of sporting competition demanded by our fans.

AVESCO looks forward to being able to play its vital role in developing the V8 Supercars capacity to lead and manage its local and international growth and to ensure the V8 Supercars will continue their exponential growth in popularity across the globe.

Network Ten is undoubtedly the home of motorsport and its coverage of the V8 Supercars is second to none. As telecaster of the 2002 V8 Supercar Championship Series, along with our partners in New Zealand TVNZ, TEN continue to excel and enjoy with us great ratings success.

Internationally, we continue to increase our coverage of the category with more than 400 million homes across 54 countries receiving coverage of V8 Supercars. Channel 5 in the U.K. is the latest international signing to our growing television audience.

Our internet partnership has also provided a strong platform for exposure, with more than 500,000 individual users logging on to the official site - www.v8supercar.com.au - each quarter.

In conclusion, I would like to recognise our fans, volunteer marshals and scrutineers, whose contribution and love of motor sport ensures its success.

The past five years have been eventful, exciting, dramatic and rewarding and I guarantee that this season promises to be another spectacular year for V8 Supercars - the world's greatest Touring Car Championship.
AUSTRALIA'S HEARTLAND SPORT - V8 SUPERCARS

Over the past four years, V8 Supercars have enjoyed enormous success both on and off the track. The V8 Supercar Championship Series is an extraordinary success. It has earned the enviable reputation of being an extremely competitive category of motor racing for Australia's elite teams and drivers, and provides quality entertainment for its fans through the closely contested racing between Ford and Holden V8 Supercars.

The Series has grown to become a truly national competition, consisting of thirteen rounds from March through to November - twelve rounds across all mainland states of Australia and one international round hosted in New Zealand.

In addition, V8 Supercars make a special appearance at the Formula 1 Grand Prix at Albert Park in Melbourne as the major support category.

Modified race formats and compulsory pit stops - a strategy similar to that used in Formula 1 - further strengthens the competition among teams by focusing on driver performance over race distance and teamwork.

Add into the mix the vibrant street circuits in the nation's capital to the Party Adelaide, that showcase the diversity and excitement of the category and you can easily see why V8 Supercars is an unparallel Australian success story.
