CODEMASTERS REVEALS F1® 2020 AUSTRIA HOT LAP AHEAD OF REVISED F1® SEASON START

July 3rd, 2020 by Jenny Marshall

Codemasters® today reveals the latest circuit to feature from F1® 2020’s Hot Lap series. Ahead of this weekend’s revised season opener in Austria, the lap, on the stunning Red Bull Ring, was recorded by the F1® 2020 development team and features Esteban Ocon in his striking Renault. The video can be viewed here:

Returning to F1® in 1970 as the fearsome Osterreichring, the circuit known today as the Red Bull Ring was created over the course of the 1995 to 1996 winter. Hermann Tilke turned it into a much shorter and more modern race track, and it was opened in 1996 as the A1-Ring. Formula 1® began at the circuit the next year. It is a short circuit, where the first half very much rewards power, as the cars race along three straights separated by a pair of uphill right-handers. As the drivers work their way downhill, the circuit becomes a high speed alpine luge ride, as the cars navigate through a series of very quick corners, including the exhilarating Rindt right-hander, named for Austria’s first F1® champion.

F1® 2020 will be released on Friday 10 July 2020 for PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, the Xbox One family of devices including the Xbox One X, Windows PC (DVD and via Steam), and Google Stadia. Players who purchase the Deluxe Schumacher Edition will receive exclusive content and three days early access.

LIGHTS OUT… F1® 2020 FULL FEATURE LIST REVEALED IN EPIC TRAILER

July 2nd, 2020 by Jenny Marshall

Codemasters® today confirms the breadth of exciting innovations and core existing features that players will experience with the imminent release of F1® 2020, the official videogame of the 2020 FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP™. With two new circuits, Hanoi Circuit and Circuit Zandvoort, the game caters to driver skills of all levels with My Team, improved on-track options, the reintroduction of split-screen, classic cars, and so much more. The full trailer can be viewed here:

Launching into My Team, the new driver-manager feature, the trailer explores car customisation, driver market and team facilities. Before taking to the grid, players need to make off-track decisions that will boost driver and staff motivation and in turn, generate funds to improve facilities, upgrade car parts and sign a new team-mate.

The trailer also highlights the range of player choice on offer. From F2™ integration to shorter seasons, F1® 2020 customisation options allow players more control over the way they race. Struggle to master Monaco and Baku? Take advantage of shorter seasons with new 10 or 16 race options. For new players, the game introduces simplified menus and driving assists which are in addition to core F1® and F2™ handling.

Following feedback from both drivers and players, F1® 2020 includes several on-track improvements. ERS, as in real-life, is activated with a simple button press making the manoeuvre much more natural to execute. At the request of the F1® community, the game has introduced a virtual rear-view mirror making it easier to identify opponents and fend off any potential attack from rivals.

Adding further levels of personalisation, the all-new Podium Pass allows players to Race, Earn and Unlock. Each season will enable players to unlock free customisation items by racing in their favourite game modes and earning XP. Custom cosmetic items include car liveries, race equipment such as gloves, overalls and helmets, and podium emotes. For next-level customisation, players can purchase the VIP upgrade to gain access to higher-level rewards and additional in-game challenges. All players who pre-order F1® 2020 will receive credit to unlock Season One VIP. Each season will contain enough currency to purchase the following VIP Podium Pass.

“In a little less than a week, our players will finally be able to experience all the innovations in F1® 2020. This year, we have created new features which cater to every type of race fan,” said Lee Mather, F1® Franchise Game Director at Codemasters. “From My Team, which gives players a real insight into the world of Formula 1®, to the more casual split-screen, F1® 2020 is the ultimate virtual racing experience to accompany the revised 2020 F1® season.”

F1® 2020 will be released on Friday 10 July 2020 for PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, the Xbox One family of devices including the Xbox One X, Windows PC (DVD and via Steam), and Google Stadia. Players who purchase the Michael Schumacher Deluxe Edition will receive exclusive content and three days early access.

CREATE, MANAGE, DRIVE, WIN IN F1® 2020’S MY TEAM

June 15th, 2020 by Jenny Marshall

Take Your Place as the 11th Team and Win the World Championship

We’re taking our first deep-dive into My Team, the innovative new game feature in F1® 2020, the official videogame of the 2020 FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP™. The unique driver-manager experience allows players to get closer to the world of F1® by creating a team and taking their place as the 11th team on the grid alongside the established 2020 driver line-up. The accompanying trailer can be viewed here:

Players begin by creating their own driver, a unique visual identity and brand for their team by picking a livery, creating their colour scheme and setting a team logo. From here they’re responsible for signing their first key sponsor, which will fund the opportunity to sign a real power unit supplier and second driver from the 2019 F2™ grid. Starting in humble surroundings, players will have fewer resources and limited equipment. See facilities improve and grow to become a fully-fledged professional F1® team, challenging for the Drivers and Constructors’ Championships. There’s no room for inner-team driver rivalries when you’re also the team boss.

Before unveiling the new car, players will face the media to answer a series of questions ranging from car performance to race predictions. The responses have a direct impact on the initial strength of the car, so players must think about how they answer. Once finalised, the car is revealed to the world via a cinematic trailer.

Another key off-track focus is managing the team during the week. How players manage, allocate and use the time available will affect everything for the upcoming race weekend. Use time to manage staff activities, generate funds and keep the team motivated. The season timeline shows the events coming-up which play through and boost performance. Team activities often have pros and cons, so sending a driver to fitness camp could have a knock-on effect such as less time dedicated to sponsors.

My Team allows players to negotiate the driver market when choosing a team-mate. Compare F1® and F2™ drivers based on Experience, Racecraft, Awareness and Pace, alongside their market value and the level of acclaim they bring to the team. All stats and driver skills are built from comprehensive real-world data from the past five F1® and F2™ seasons, and drivers will receive stats updates during the season delivered directly into the game based on their 2020 real-world race performances.

“My Team is a feature that both the studio and our community have wanted for some time,” said Lee Mather, F1® Franchise Game Director at Codemasters. “My Team thrusts the player into the world of F1® with its unique driver-manager experience. We know our players are going to love this new feature.”

“It’s been an enlightening experience using real-world data to create the driver stats. They will divide opinion, and we know our players will spend hours debating them,” said Paul Jeal, F1® Franchise Director at Codemasters. “We’re excited to see how the stats evolve when the drivers hit the track, and the knock-on effect this will have in the game.”

CANADA SHOWCASES F1® 2020 SPLIT-SCREEN AHEAD OF THE FINAL VIRTUAL GRAND PRIX

June 12th, 2020 by Jenny Marshall

Today, we’re focuses on F1® 2020’s new split-screen mode from Circuit de Gilles-Villeneuve. Ahead of this weekend’s final Virtual Grand Prix before the new season gets underway, the three-lap race, featuring both Valtteri Bottas’ Mercedes and Lance Stroll’s Racing Point, was recorded by the F1® 2020 development team. The video can be viewed here:

The Canadian Grand Prix has been a staple of the F1® calendar since the late ‘60s, with Circuit de Gilles-Villeneuve holding the mantle in almost every F1® season since 1978. The circuit features some of the heaviest braking zones around with a long straight before the hairpin on turn 10 and the famous final chicane beside the wall of champions on the start/finish straight.

For more social play with friends, two-player split-screen makes a welcome return to F1® 2020. Captured in-game, the race shows several corner adjustments and aesthetic changes made to the Montreal track.

This Sunday, June 14, F1® drivers Alex Albon, Nicholas Latifi, George Russell, Valtteri Bottas and Pierre Gasly all return for the final Virtual Grand Prix on F1® 2019. The live broadcast starts at 6pm (BST) on the official Formula 1 YouTube, Twitch, the Formula1game Facebook page and Weibo, alongside several international broadcast partners.

BAKU BECKONS FOR THE LATEST F1® 2020 HOT LAP AHEAD OF VIRTUAL GRAND PRIX

June 5th, 2020 by Jenny Marshall

It’s time to reveal the latest circuit to feature from F1® 2020’s hot lap series. Ahead of this weekend’s Virtual Grand Prix at the same location, the lap, on Azerbaijan’s Baku City Circuit, was recorded by the F1® 2020 development team and features Antonio Giovinazzi in his vibrant Alfa Romeo. The video can be viewed here.

Since its addition to the racing calendar in 2016, the tricky city circuit has quickly become a fan-favourite. Sparing no shortage of nail-biting moments right from the off with a tight turn one left-hander, drivers must navigate the high-risk, big-reward castle corner and accompanying blind ascent. Players must also master turn 15 before the long hairpin and even longer start/finish straight.

This Sunday, June 7, F1® drivers Sergio Perez and Pierre Gasly make their Virtual Grand Prix debuts on F1® 2019. Returning once again are Charles Leclerc, Alex Albon, Nicholas Latifi, Antonio Giovinazzi, and – fresh from his back-to-back victories at Monaco and Spain – George Russell. Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte will also be taking to the track, as will AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, rally biker Matthias Walkner, and Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois – his fourth Virtual Grand Prix appearance. The live broadcast starts at 6pm (BST) on the official Formula 1 YouTube, Twitch, the Formula1game Facebook page and Weibo, alongside several international broadcast partners.

F1® 2020 SERVES-UP A TASTE OF THE ORIENT WITH HANOI CIRCUIT REVEAL

May 29th, 2020 by Jenny Marshall

Today, we’re unveiling the second new circuit to feature in F1® 2020, the official videogame of the 2020 FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP™. Having revealed Circuit Zandvoort earlier in the campaign, the development team heads to Vietnam for Hanoi Circuit. This city location fuses a street circuit’s characteristics with a permanent track layout. The lap, recorded by the F1® 2020 development team, features Scuderia Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc. The video can be viewed here:

Hanoi Circuit is 5.613km long, features 23 turns and takes inspiration from iconic F1® circuits such as Suzuka, Monaco and Nürburgring. Designed for action and overtaking, with two incredibly long straights, it promises to be one of the fastest circuits in the F1® calendar. With one of the shortest pit lanes, which removes both the final and first corners, pit-stop strategy could play a pivotal role in staying ahead of the competition.

“We’re always excited to create new experiences for our players. Hanoi Circuit delivers both thrills and challenges, set against the backdrop of the stunning city skyline,” said Lee Mather, F1® Franchise Game Director at Codemasters. “Hanoi Circuit is an adrenaline rush with high speeds, long straights and heavy braking zones, but it will punish anyone who doesn’t respect the walled sections.”

“Hanoi Circuit offers a unique city circuit layout with several overtaking possibilities and high-speed corner combinations,” said Dr, Carsten Tilke, Managing Director and Partner at Tilke GmbH & Co. KG. “Codemasters has done a great job recreating Hanoi Circuit, and the track will provide a new challenge for all players.”

F1® 2020 will be released on Friday 10th July 2020 for PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, the Xbox One family of devices including the Xbox One X, Windows PC (DVD and via Steam), and Google Stadia. Players who purchase the Michael Schumacher Deluxe Edition will receive exclusive content and three days early access.
