From lights out, players will experience the true drama of motorsport. “As a team, we are incredibly proud of the game we have made and excited that players around the world can finally get their hands on it,” said Chris Smith, GRID Game Director at Codemasters. “We set-out with three goals; make a game that puts the player in control and allows them to play their way. For the game to feel alive and celebrate the drama of motorsport. Lastly, make a game that is for everyone; to have the best handling which appeals to both core racing fans and casual players. We have put all of this into GRID and we look forward to hearing feedback from our players.”

GET YOUR HEART RACING AS GRID® PREPARES FOR LAUNCH

September 18th, 2019 by Isher Dhillon

Take Your Place in the GRID World Series and Experience the Drama of Motorsport

Codemasters® ignites the drama of motorsport with the latest GRID® trailer that premieres today. Having recently won Best Racing Game at the gamescom Awards 2019, the trailer highlights player choice, showcasing multiple car classes on some of the most challenging track and street circuits in various settings including night time and heavy rain race conditions. GRID releases on 11th October on PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, the Xbox One family of devices including the Xbox One X and Windows PC (DVD and via Steam).

Against the backdrop of a remixed version of The Light by Sophie and the Giants, the trailer comes to life with the Audi R8 1:1 battling wheel-to-wheel with the Honda CRX MightyMouse on the twisting point-to-point Okutama Sprint. The action cuts to traditional race circuits in Zhejiang and Brands Hatch and the first Nemesis is created as the SRT Viper GTS-R and Chevrolet Corvette C7.R trade paint as they jostle bumper-to-bumper to retain the racing line.

The trailer culminates with the Prototype class featuring the Acura DPi and Cadillac DPi-V.R racing through the streets of Shanghai at night and fades with a climatic fight to the finish. With 104 events at launch including challenges against FA Racing Logitech G and Fernando Alonso, players enter the GRID World Series against long-time adversaries, Ravenwest. With accessibility and choice at its core, players have access to four cities, eight circuits with over 80 racing routes. Featuring over 400 AI personalities ranging from calm to aggressive, measured to unpredictable, every race will feel unique and alive.

“As a team, we wanted to capture the essence of the original GRID which, in its day innovated the racing genre with best-in-class handling and the introduction of Flashback. We want to build on GRID’s legacy and create a game that focuses on three core pillars of choice & accessibility, motorsport stories and racing for glory, all of which are captured in the trailer,” said Chris Smith, GRID Game Director at Codemasters. “Accessibility and Choice allows players to race their way with handling options for both the core sim racer and casual players. Secondly, it’s about Glory and Prestige. We want players to feel excited no matter where they finish – whether that’s in first place or coming out on top against your arch nemesis. Lastly, it’s about the unpredictable stories that happen in Motorsport; it’s why we watch motorsport on TV. It’s the drama and those the key moments that get you sitting on the edge of your seat. GRID isn’t about a procession of cars. It’s tight overtakes, bumper-to-bumper scrapes and competitive racing action. We want everything including the car to be able to tell a story at the end of the race through its bumps and scrapes. GRID gives players drama, excitement and unique motorsport stories in every race.”

Grid Autosport ‘Best of British’ add-on content available today

July 22nd, 2014 by codemasters

Today Codemasters® announced the ‘Best of British’ Car Pack for GRID Autosport is available from today for the Xbox 360 games and entertainment system from Microsoft, Windows PC and for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system priced at £2.39

22 July 2014

The ‘Best of British’ car pack features three stunning vehicles, each engineered and produced in the UK. Gamers can see each of the cars in action in a new video now playing at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3K0PbkTLuA introduced by Lead Handling Designer Gehan Pathiraja, who comments of the creation process, “We spend hours of research and a lot of time behind the pad and the steering wheel to make them [the cars] as accurate as possible. There’s a lot of work that goes into it to make it feel like that car. Because we’ve taken a handcrafted approach, we really care for the gameplay and we want other people to experience that as well.”

The three cars available in the pack, with accompanying comments from Gehan, are as follows:

1995 McLaren F1 GTR

“We all know the McLaren F1 is an awesome road car – this is the GTR designed for Endurance Racing. It’s got a huge wing that will give you massive downforce in the corners, it’s all about being brave and attacking those corners at speeds you never thought possible.”

2011 Aston Martin Zagato V12

“The Zagato model has bodywork styled by Italian designers, but has a typical Aston Martin V12 engine, very powerful, very torquey. If you can manage the weight and the grip and fire it out the corners, you’ll benefit from all that power from the V12.”

2007 McLaren Mercedes SLR 722

“It’s got a huge supercharged V8 engine that sounds like an old World War Two Spitfire. There’s clearly a lot of power being put out from the V8, and you can really feel that in the car in our game.”

“The Fear Factor, the excitement, the adrenaline… magnified”

July 17th, 2014 by codemasters

17 June 2014

Today Codemasters® revealed a new video showcasing the Street racing discipline, one of the five unique styles of racing set to star in the game’s new world of professional motorsport, now playing at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vcej03eyoA

The video reveals a wide range of GRID Autosport’s cars that compete in the Street discipline going wheel-to-wheel in dramatic and claustrophobic races. The video also features Dan Trent and Matt Burton from PistonHeads (www.pistonheads.com), explaining the Street racing difference and what it’s like to race some of the most exciting cars in the world.

Dan Trent explains what it feels like to race on street circuits, saying, “driving on a tight circuit with no run off is very, very different from driving on the circuits. [With] Tracks with closed fences by the sides, narrow tracks, you get a heightened sense of speed. Everything is ramped up – the fear factor, the excitement, the adrenaline, everything is magnified. You just know that you can’t afford to make any kind of mistake.”

Matt Burton comments on the unique experience of racing supercars as featured in GRID Autosport, “it’s the relentlessness of the acceleration. The exciting thing with a supercar is having that much power that it never quite feels like it’s tailing off. There’s nothing better really when you’re a car fan. It’s like nothing else.”

In GRID Autosport’s Street racing discipline, players take the racing to the asphalt in iconic cities across the world as circuits are carved through the streets of Washington D.C., San Francisco, Paris, Barcelona, Dubai and Chicago. Player reactions and the ability to take chances are put to the test in striking urban environments for a huge range of production cars, from hot hatches like the Mini John Cooper Works GP and the Volkswagen Golf R to supercars like the Pagani Huayra and Mazda Furai and hypercars including the McLaren P1™, Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport and more. To bring alive the authentic experience of racing in these events, Codemasters has consulted with real-world professional racing drivers who have put these cars through their paces.

In GRID Autosports huge career, gamers will specialise in their favourite racing discipline or conquer them all; players will feel the aggression of the pack in Touring Cars, race into the night in Endurance events, race Open-Wheel cars with precision, show car control in Tuner events and react on the fly in Street races. Each unique category features series dedicated to different classes, including Touring Cars, Hypercars, Endurance GT Cars, Prototypes, Single-Seaters, Super Modified vehicles, Drift cars and many, many more. Bursting with content, GRID Autosport features over 100 routes across 22 incredible locations and the world’s most exciting contemporary and classic high-performance racing cars to collect, tune and upgrade.

GRID Autosport is set to ship on June 24th in the USA and release on June 27th in Europe for the Xbox 360 games and entertainment system from Microsoft, Windows PC and for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system. A limited edition of GRID Autosport featuring exclusive additional content including the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Coupé Black Series, GRID Autosport Black Edition, is available to pre-order from GAME in the UK. http://youtu.be/Rf0OtaDhUMk

In the video, gameplay footage of GRID Autosport’s Tuner discipline shows custom tuned cars breaking traction and getting sideways in front of cheering crowds as they compete in competitions including Drift events and Time Attack events. GRID Autosport’s Tuner events feature series dedicated to single-purpose, modified and tuned vehicles. These events are not about being the quickest but demonstrating mastery over a vehicle in its most unstable state. Gamers will also put tuned vehicles to the test in races and set their fastest lap in multi-car Time Attack events. To bring alive the authentic experience of racing and drifting in these style of events, Codemasters has consulted extensively with real-world professional drivers.

GRID Autosport features a range of cars and series in the Tuner category. In the drift category, players will test their skills in stunning contemporary and classic cars including the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X Team Orange, the Mazda RX-7 (FD3S) Drift Tuned and  the Nissan 1993 (S13) Daijiro Yoshihara 240SX. See Racing ‘Absolutely on the Edge’ in new Grid Autosport Open-Wheel video

EXPERIENCE A ‘ROLLERCOASTER WHERE YOU’RE DRIVING’ IN GRID AUTOSPORT OPEN-WHEEL RACING EVENTS

4 June 2014

Today Codemasters® revealed a new video showcasing the Open-Wheel racing discipline, one of the five unique styles of racing set to star in the game’s new world of professional motorsport, now playing athttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0XJF_Vcn98

In the video, gameplay footage of GRID Autosport’s Open-Wheel racing discipline reveals purpose-built racing thoroughbreds going wheel-to-wheel in events where racing with precision at high speeds is essential for success. The video also features real-world racing drivers explaining the appeal of the discipline and how to succeed in cars which ‘take a bit of holding onto’, including British Racing Driver Club Rising Stars Jake Hill and Alice Powell, Danny Keirle from the Young Racing Driver Academy  plus Arden International Motorsport’s GP3 racer Patric Neiderhauser who explains that at “almost 200 mph, side by side, [it’s ]the best feeling in the world – it’s like being on a rollercoaster but you’re driving yourself.”

In GRID Autosport’s Open-Wheel events, players must race smoothly and shave seconds off each and every lap in lightweight racing cars designed for a phenomenal power-to-weight ratio. Slipstreaming and picking the correct line around each corner is vital in a range of series typically featuring a single car class. Open-Wheel race cars are masterpieces of racing engineering where contact can quickly lead to the end of a driver’s race, so players must execute clean passes at high speed in order to win. Codemasters has consulted with drivers who have competed in Open-Wheel races to bring the experience of racing these cars alive authentically.

GRID Autosport features a range of cars and series in the Open-Wheel category. Players will get to test their skills in stunning examples of automotive excellence, including the Dallara F312, Ariel Atom 3.5, Caparo T1, Dallara Indycar and many more. It’s all about the long race in new Grid Autosport Endurance gameplay video

May 23rd, 2014 by codemasters

PUSH TO THE LIMIT IN COMPETITIVE EXTENDED EVENTS WHERE ‘YOU NEVER FEEL YOU’RE GOING FAST ENOUGH UNTIL YOU’RE INTO THE WALL’

23 May 2014

Today Codemasters® revealed a new video showcasing the Endurance racing discipline, one of the five unique styles of racing set to star in the game’s new world of professional motorsport, now playing at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZ35QKDMxWk

In the video, gameplay footage of GRID Autosport’s Endurance racing discipline reveals spectacular sports cars racing into the night in extended events where “you can never win a race on the first corner.” The video also features real-world professional drivers explaining the enduring appeal of the discipline and how to succeed in the sport, including Matt Bell of United Autosports,  Aleksander Schjerpen from Century Motorsport and Rory Butcher of the Oman Racing Team / Motorbase Performance who comments, “You’ve got to be quick of course. You’ve got to treat the car well to get to the end of the race. You’ve got to be very consistent over the long distance.”

In GRID Autosport’s Endurance events players must manage tyre wear and race to a strategy in extended races which provide a true test of racing skill, patience and car management. As players race, they must manage their tyres which will lose grip as they break traction or go off track, affecting performance and handling as the race progresses. Players who look after their tyres will be faster towards the end of the race.

In career mode, Endurance events are set at night for dramatic racing and an extra challenge, and gamers can also set up Custom Cup and online races to put the stunning Endurance cars to the test in day time events. In the drive to capture the feel of racing in real-world Endurance events, Codemasters has consulted with professional drivers and the experts at Autosport magazine to distil the experience into scalable races, whether online or in career mode.

Endurance events feature stunning prototypes on the cutting edge of automotive engineering and some of the most exciting and desirable production cars tuned for sports racing, each requiring incredible aerodynamics, blistering pace and extraordinary reliability. Players will get behind the wheels of contemporary and classic cars including the Aston Martin N24 V12 Zagato, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3, McLaren 12C GT3, Audi R8 LMS Ultra, Lola B12/80, Shelby Cobra “Daytona” Coupe, Ford GT40 MK1 and more as they race on the games circuits, including Yas Marina, Sepang and the world-famous Hockenheimring. Endurance events test both the capacity of the cars competing to withstand the extreme stresses placed on the vehicles in this long form of motorsport and each driver’s ability to maintain concentration at high speeds over distance.

GRID Autosport is set to ship on 24th June in the USA and release on June 27th in Europe for the Xbox 360 games and entertainment system from Microsoft, Windows PC and for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system.
